LEGISLATION ACT 2001 - SECT 106

References to provisions of laws are inclusive

In an ACT law, a reference to any part of a law is a reference to the following:

        (a)     the provision of the law that begins the part;

        (b)     the provision of the law that ends the part;

        (c)     any provision of the law between the beginning and end of the part.

Examples

1     A reference to ‘sections 5 to 9' includes both section 5 and section 9.

2     A reference to ‘sections 260 to 264' includes a provision such as a part heading between section 260 and section 261.

3     A reference to ‘ from child to adult' includes both the word ‘child' and the word ‘adult'.

Note     An example is part of the Act, is not exhaustive and may extend, but does not limit, the meaning of the provision in which it appears (see s 126 and s 132).
