CHILDREN'S SERVICES ACT 1986 - NOTES

1.     The Children's Services Act 1986 in this reprint is No. 13, 1986 amended as indicated in the Tables below.

    The Children's Services Act 1986 was originally the Children's Services Ordinance1986.

The Australian Capital Territory (Self-Government) Act 1988 of the Commonwealth provided for the conversion of certain Territory Ordinances (including the Children's Services Ordinance 1986 except for Pts 3 and 10) after Self-Government. Parts 3 and 10 of the Children's Services Act 1986 became Territory enactments on 1 July 1992.

2.     The Legislation (Republication) Act 1996 authorises the Parliamentary Counsel, in preparing a law for republication, to make certain editorial and other formal amendments in accordance with current legislative drafting practice. The amendments do not change the law. Amendments made under the Act do not appear in the Table of Amendments but details may be obtained on request from the Parliamentary Counsel's Office.

The Legislation (Republication) Act 1996, part 3, division 2 authorised the Parliamentary Counsel to make editorial amendments and other changes of a formal nature when preparing a law for republication. Editorial changes do not change the effect of the law, but have effect as if they had been made by an Act commencing on the republication date (see Legislation (Republication) Act 1996, s 14 and s 16). The changes are made if the Parliamentary Counsel considers they are desirable to bring the law into line, or more closely into line, with current legislative drafting practice.
