The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1 Short title
5
This Act may be cited as the Australian Meat and Live-stock
6
Industry (Amendment) (Tagging Live-stock) Act 2016.

2 Commencement
8
(1) Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table
9
commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with
10
column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect
11
according to its terms.

1 After section 16

Insert:

16A Licence subject to condition that live-stock be tagged
5
An export licence is subject to a condition that:
6
(a) all live-stock exported be fitted with an electronic
7
identification tag of a kind approved by the Secretary; and
8
(b) data from the tag be collected and recorded, each time that
9
one of the following occurs:
10
(i) the live-stock enters a vessel or vehicle in the course of,
11
or for the purposes of, exporting the live-stock;
12
(ii) the live-stock enters a vessel or vehicle for the purposes
13
of slaughter, or transfer to a place where the livestock
14
will be slaughtered;
15
(iii) the live-stock exits a vessel or vehicle entered as
16
mentioned in subparagraph (i) or (ii);
17
(iv) the live-stock enters premises for the purposes of being
18
fed in the course of, or for the purposes of, exporting the
19
live-stock;
20
(v) the live-stock exits premises where the live-stock has
21
been fed in the course of, or for the purposes of,
22
exporting the live-stock;
23
(vi) the live-stock enters premises used for the purposes of
24
slaughter;
25
(vii) the live-stock exits premises used for the purposes of
26
slaughter; and
27
(c) data collected using the tag is made available to the Secretary
28
upon request.

2 Application

The amendments made by this Schedule apply to export licences,
31
whether issued before, on or after the day on which this Schedule
32
commences.
