the Aged Care Act 1997 (the Act) and the Aged Care (Consequential
Provisions) Act 1997 by introducing a number of changes in response to
concerns of older Australians and addressing some administrative and procedural
issues that have become apparent since the commencement of the new legislation
on 1 October 1997.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no financial impact.
NOTES ON AMENDMENT
Amendment 1
This Item amends subsection 44-7(3) of
the Aged Care Act 1997 which currently states that a person is a
concessional resident if a determination has been made that an accommodation
bond is not payable due to financial hardship. Accommodation charges are
introduced in the Aged Care Amendment Bill 1998.
This Item
provides that a reference to section 57A-9 of the Aged Care Amendment Bill
1998 will be included in subsection 44-7(3) of the Aged Care Act 1997.
This is to allow a person who has a determination that the payment of an
accommodation charge would cause financial hardship, to be a concessional
resident.
