2016-2017-2018 THE PARLIAMENT OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA SENATE ABORIGINAL LAND RIGHTS (NORTHERN TERRITORY) AMENDMENT BILL 2017 SUPPLEMENTARY EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM Amendments to be moved on behalf of the Government (Circulated by the authority of the Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Senator the Hon Nigel Scullion)Index] [Search] [Download] [Bill] [Help]ABORIGINAL LAND RIGHTS (NORTHERN TERRITORY) AMENDMENT BILL 2017 OUTLINE OF AMENDMENTS The Bill now adds areas associated with the settlement of the Anthony Lagoon Area Land Claim (Anthony Lagoon) to Schedule 1 of the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 (Land Rights Act) so that Anthony Lagoon can be granted as Aboriginal land. NOTES ON AMENDMENTS Clause 2 - Commencement Clause 2 is amended to provide that the additional measures in Schedule 3 will also commence on the day after Royal Assent. 1
Schedule 3 - Anthony Lagoon Summary This Schedule adds a further parcel of land to Schedule 1 to the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 (Land Rights Act). Background This Schedule adds a further parcel of Northern Territory land to Schedule 1 to the Land Rights Act. This will allow the land in question to be granted to the relevant Aboriginal Land Trust under sections 10 and 12 of the Land Rights Act. Explanation of the changes Item 1 - Part 4 of Schedule 1 (before the item relating to Bauhinia Downs) Item 1 amends Part 4 of Schedule 1 to the Land Rights Act by inserting a reference to an additional portion of land (Northern Territory Portion 5010 delineated on Survey Plan S96/303) known as Anthony Lagoon as land to be granted as Aboriginal land. 2
