              Amendments to be moved on behalf of the Government

Outline APEC PUBLIC HOLIDAY BILL 2007 OUTLINE The proposed government amendments would amend the APEC Public Holiday Bill. The amendments would expand the range of industrial instruments to which the APEC Bill would apply. The effect of the amendments would be to deem the APEC holiday as a public holiday in all industrial instruments operating in the federal system to which the APEC public holiday applies. Notes on Amendments NOTES ON AMENDMENTS Amendment 1 - Clause 3, page 2 (line 3) 1. This amendment would make a minor amendment to the Object of Act to reflect the amendments to deem the APEC holiday as a public holiday in all federal industrial instruments to which the APEC public holiday applies. Amendment 2 - Clause 4, page 2 (line 13) Amendment 3 - Clause 4, page 2 (line 17) Amendment 4 - Clause 4, page 2 (line 19) 2. These amendments would make consequential changes the definition of employment in clause 4 of the Bill to reflect the new definition of industrial instrument. Amendment 5 - Clause 4, page 2 (after line 21) 3. This amendment inserts a new definition of industrial instrument in clause 4 of the Bill. The new definition of industrial instrument ensures that the Bill would apply to all industrial instruments operating in the federal system to which the APEC public holiday would apply. Amendment 6 - Clause 4, page 2 (line 27) 4. This amendment omits the definition of pre-reform industrial in clause 4 of the Bill. Amendment 7 - Clause 5, page 3 (line 12) Amendment 8 - Clause 5, page 3 (line 20) 5. These amendments are consequential to the new definition of industrial instrument.
