AUSTRALIAN RESEARCH COUNCIL BILL 2000


OUTLINE

This amendment allows for unspent funds of $3,500,000 included in section 23C of the Higher Education Funding Act 1988 for use in 2000 to be appropriated instead under the Australian Research Council Bill 2000 for use in 2001.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

The net financial impact is nil. The decrease in funds available for the year 2000 under the Higher Education Funding Act 1988 of $3,500,000 is offset by an increase in the funds available under the Australian Research Council Bill 2000 for 2001.

NOTES ON AMENDMENTS

Clause 1

Clause 49 provides the annual cap on funding for financial assistance for approved research programs. This clause increases the funding in clause 49 by carrying over unspent funds appropriated for this purpose for 2000 in paragraph 23C(2)(h) of the Higher Education Funding Act 1988 into funds appropriated for this purpose for 2001 under the Australian Research Council Bill 2000.

Clause 2

Amends clause 52 in the Bill to correctly cite clause 51(1).
