2013-2014-2015 THE PARLIAMENT OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA THE SENATE ENHANCING ONLINE SAFETY FOR CHILDREN BILL 2014 SUPPLEMENTARY EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM Amendments to be moved on behalf of the Government The amendments make two minor changes to the Bill to respond to submissions to the Senate Environment and Communications Legislation Committee inquiry that eligibility for appointment as the Children's e-Safety Commissioner should include experience or knowledge in the field of child welfare or child wellbeing. Amendments (1) and (2) Subclause 50(2) of the Bill sets out the eligibility criteria for appointment as the Commissioner. The Minister must be satisfied that the person has substantial experience or knowledge and significant standing in at least one of the fields listed in paragraphs 50(2)(c) to (f). Amendments (1) and (2) amend subclause 50(2) to add the additional field of child welfare or child wellbeing. (Circulated by authority of the Minister for Communications, the Hon.
