EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM

OUTLINE AND FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT

Schedule 1 – Amendments of the social security law

Financial impact

Omit: “There are no financial impact from these changes.”
Insert:
“Items 5, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 57, 58 and 60 of Schedule 1 relate to the measure which ensures that rent assistance may be paid to eligible customers as part of their family tax benefit instead of their income support payment. This measure has a financial impact.


It is expected that this measure will generate savings in the order of $0.9m per annum, and that savings generated in the part-year 2003-2004 will be offset by one-off Centrelink costs of $0.4m.

There are no financial implications from any other measures in Schedule 1.”
