THE PARLIAMENT OF THE COMMONWEALTH
OF AUSTRALIA
HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES
MIGRATION LEGISLATION AMENDMENT BILL
(NO. 1) 2002
SUPPLEMENTARY EXPLANATORY
MEMORANDUM
(Government amendment)
NOTE ON AMENDMENTS
Amendment (1)
1. The purpose of this amendment to item 7 of Schedule 5 to the Migration
Legislation Amendment Bill (No. 1) 2002 (“the Bill”) is to omit
proposed subsection 241(3) from the Bill.
Amendment (2)
2. The amendment to item 2 of Schedule 6 to the Bill clarifies that
proposed subsection 48(3) applies only to applications for a visa made in the
migration zone. That is, proposed subsection 48(3) does not prevent a
non-citizen from travelling outside Australia and, while outside Australia,
making a valid application for a visa.
