EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM
OUTLINE
The purpose of the Bill is to amend the States Grants (Primary and
Secondary Education Assistance) Act 2000 to increase the amount of
establishment assistance for new non-government schools in line with current
estimates of demand.
This Bill amends the States Grants (Primary and
Secondary Education Assistance) Act 2000 to replace the amounts shown in
Schedule 7, column 2, detailing the amount available for establishment grants
for each of the program years 2001 – 2004. This amendment brings the
funding in line with the current estimates of new schools seeking establishment
assistance.
The Bill provides increased funding available for establishment
assistance for new schools of $9.534 million over the program years
2001-2004.

CLAUSES
Clause 1 - Short title
This clause provides for the Act
to be cited as the States Grants (Primary and Secondary Education Assistance)
Amendment Act (No.2) 2001.
Clause 2 - Commencement
This clause provides for the
Act to commence on the day on which it receives the Royal
Assent.
Clause 3 - Schedule(s)
Provides that each Act
that is specified in a Schedule is amended or repealed as set out in the
applicable items in the Schedule and that any other item in a Schedule has
effect according to its terms.
Item 1 –Schedule 7 (table)
Replaces the table in
Schedule 7 to the States Grants (Primary and Secondary Education
Assistance)Act 2000 with a new table providing additional establishment
assistance for new non-government schools for each of the program years 2001 to
2004 to bring funding into line with current estimates of new schools seeking
establishment assistance.
