NAVIGATION (FIRE APPLIANCES) REGULATIONS 1968 - REG 6

Application

(1)
Subject to this regulation, these Regulations apply to all ships to which Part IV of the Act applies.

(2)
These Regulations apply to a Safety Convention ship registered in a country other than Australia that is engaged in the coasting trade.

(3)
Subject to subregulation (2), these Regulations do not apply to a Safety Convention ship, registered in a country other than Australia:

(a)
in respect of which there is in force a valid Safety Convention certificate that, in the case of a passenger ship, corresponds with a passenger ship safety certificate or, in the case of a cargo ship, corresponds with a cargo ship safety equipment certificate; and

(b)
which complies with the requirements of the Safety Convention relating to:

(i)
the prevention, detection and extinction of fire on ships; and
(ii)
fire appliances.
(4)
These Regulations do not apply to a ship which is registered in a country other than Australia and is not a Safety Convention ship.

(5)
A reference in subregulation (1) or (2) to a ship shall be read as not including a reference to a ship the keel of which is, or was, laid, or which reaches, or reached, a similar stage of construction, after 24 May 1980.
