Agricultural And Veterinary Chemicals Code Act 1994
Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Code Regulations (Amendment)
Section 6 of the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Code Act 1994 (the Act) provides that the Governor-General may make regulations for the purpose of the Act.
The Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Code Bill was passed in March 1994 as part of the package of legislation to implement the National Registration Scheme for agricultural and veterinary chemicals. The Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Code Regulations provide necessary support to the Act.
The purpose of the amendment is to prescribe a new insecticide product, with the trade-name "Dursban Pre-Construction Termiticide", as a 'restricted chemical product'. Under the Act a' restricted chemical product' can only be supplied to an authorised person. An authorised person means a person authorised by the government of a State or Territory. Authorised persons are required to have appropriate skills and equipment, and use due care in their activities.
This amendment is being made for reasons of occupational health.
Details of the regulations are as follows:
Regulation 1 provides for the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Code Regulations to be amended by the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Code (Amendment) Regulations
Regulation 2 provides for "Dursban Pre-Construction Termiticide" to be added to the existing list of restricted agricultural and veterinary chemical products
The proposed regulations would commence on the date of gazettal.
