Queensland Consolidated Acts(1) A separate domestic area is a building or part of a building in Queensland that is--
(a) used, or, if not being used, available to be used, solely as a single self-contained place of residence; and
(b) wired for the supply to it of electricity.
(2) For subsection (1), a building or a part of a building is not used solely as a single self-contained place of residence if it is to any extent used for income producing or business purposes.
Examples of separate domestic areas--
a detached house, a residential unit or a flat, used only as a place of residence for a family
a detached house occupied by a family only as a place of residence, and occupied also by an elderly family member who lives in separate living facilities in the house and who does not pay a commercial rent for his or her occupation
a single residential unit in a residential unit complex, used solely as a residence, that has been converted from 2 residential units
