NATURE CONSERVATION ACT 1992 - SECT 127
Appointment of conservation officers
127 Appointment of conservation officers
(1) The Minister may— (a) appoint an employee of the department; or
(b)
appoint an officer of the public service; or
(c) appoint a police officer; or
(d) with the person’s consent, appoint another person;
to be a conservation
officer. Note— Under the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000 ,
section 13 , a police officer may be appointed as a conservation officer only
with the written approval of the commissioner of the police service.
(2)
The Minister may appoint a conservation officer, who has satisfactorily
completed a course of training approved by the Minister, to be a special
conservation officer.
(3) An appointment under subsection (1) or (2) must be
in, or evidenced by, writing signed by the Minister.
(4) A conservation
officer appointed under subsection (1) (a) or (b) holds office subject to the
conditions specified in the instrument of appointment.
(5) A conservation
officer appointed under subsection (1) (d) — (a) holds office for the term,
and subject to the conditions, specified in the instrument of appointment; and
(b) may resign office by writing signed and given to the Minister.
