STATE COUNTER-DISASTER ORGANISATION ACT 1975 - SECT 6A

6A Meaning of "disaster"

(1) A "disaster" is an event that causes or threatens to cause any of the following--

(a) widespread or severe property loss or damage;
(b) widespread or severe human injury or illness;
(c) loss of human life.

(2) The event may be natural or caused by human acts or omissions.

(3) Without limiting subsection (1), the event may be any of the following--

(a) a flood, earthquake, seismic sea wave, cyclone, storm, tornado, eruption or other natural happening;
(b) an explosion, fire, gas leak, fuel or oil spill or any accident;
(c) an infestation, plague or epidemic;
(d) a failure of, or disruption to, an essential service or infrastructure;
(e) an attack against the State.
