South Australian Consolidated Acts4—Establishment of pounds and appointment of poundkeepers
(1) Any council may
establish and maintain within its district one or more public pounds, and may
appoint fit and proper persons to be keepers of such pounds.
(1a) Any council may
join with any other council or councils in the establishment or maintenance of
any public pound, notwithstanding that such public pound is not within the
district of such first-mentioned council.
(2) With regard to any
portion of the State not within the boundaries of any district, the Governor
may establish public pounds at such places as he deems necessary, and may
appoint fit and proper persons to be keepers of such pounds.
(3) No person holding
the office of ranger under the Crown or under any council, or holding a
publican's licence, shall be appointed a poundkeeper.
