It is a defence to a
charge under section 19(1) for a person to prove that the act alleged to
constitute the offence was done —
(a) in
accordance with a generally accepted animal husbandry practice, other than a
prescribed practice, that is used in —
(i)
farming or grazing activities; or
(ii)
the management of zoos, wildlife parks or similar
establishments; or
(iii)
the management of animal breeding establishments; or
(iv)
the training of animals;
and
(b) in a
humane manner.
