Western Australian Consolidated Regulations Western Australian Consolidated Regulations (1) Subject to the
provisions of regulation 3(2), a reference in this Part to a motor boat
is a reference to a motor boat that is a pleasure vessel within the meaning of
section 98(1) of the Western Australian Marine Act 1982 ; and the
word owner has the meaning provided by that section.
(2) In this
Part —
Level 50 means a personal flotation device
classified as such by the Australian Standard AS 4758;
Level 50S (Special) means a personal flotation
device classified as such by the Australian Standard AS 4758;
Level 100 means a personal flotation device
classified as such by the Australian Standard AS 4758;
Level 150 means a personal flotation device
classified as such by the Australian Standard AS 4758;
Level 275 means a personal flotation device
classified as such by the Australian Standard AS 4758;
para‑sailing means the sport or exercise
where a person is towed over water by a motor boat and with the aid of a kite,
parachute or similar apparatus becomes airborne;
personal watercraft means any vessel
that —
(a) is
propelled by means of an inboard motor powering a water jet pump; and
(b) is
designed to be steered by a person sitting, standing or kneeling on the vessel
and not within it;
PFD Type 1 means a personal flotation device that
bears the stamp of Standards Australia and conforms to standard AS 1512
issued by that body;
PFD Type 2 means a personal flotation device that
bears the stamp of Standards Australia and conforms to standard AS 1499
issued by that body;
PFD Type 3 means a personal flotation device that
bears the stamp of Standards Australia and conforms to standard AS 2260
issued by that body;
SOLAS jacket means a jacket that meets the
standards of the current International Convention for the Safety of Life at
Sea;
trick water ski‑ing means the sport or
exercise of being towed over the water by a motor boat, without being
continuously supported on the surface;
water ski‑ing means the sport or exercise of
being towed over water, at a speed of 8 knots or more, by a motor boat, so as
to be supported on the surface by a ski or skis, an aquaplane or other
apparatus, or the feet; and water skier means a person engaging in water
ski‑ing or in trick water ski‑ing.

Regulations 48 to 51A, 52, 52E and 52F apply to or in relation to motor
boats, regulation 52A applies to or in relation to all vessels except
commercial vessels and regulations 51C, 52B to 52D, 52G and 52H apply to
or in relation to all vessels.
