77 Non-attendance at school—notification of

The Parliament of South Australia enacts as
follows:
This Act may be cited as the Education (Parental Notification of
Non-attendance) Amendment Act 2007.
This Act will come into operation on a day to be fixed by
proclamation.
In this Act, a provision under a heading referring to the amendment of a
specified Act amends the Act so specified.
Part 2—Amendment
of Education
Act 1972
After section 76 insert:
77—Non-attendance at school—notification of
parent
(1) The head teacher of a school must ensure that a parent of a student
enrolled at the school is notified of any unexplained absence of the student
from school.
(2) Notification under subsection (1) must be
communicated—
(a) by SMS message, telephone call or some other means approved by the
Minister; and
(b) before the end of the school day on which the absence is detected by a
member of staff.
(3) In this section—
student means a student under the age of 18 years.
