Objectives

• That Indigenous Women play protagonist roles in all social-political processes, reaffirmation of identity and the promotion of Indigenous Peoples rights.
• To assume and redress the historical-cultural role of Indigenous Women.
• To develop mechanisms for action that will ensure the meaningful exchange of experiences and knowledge on the actual reality of Indigenous Women.
• To analyze the environmental and social impact of External Development projects in order to determine the ways and means of Sustainable Development and the role of Indigenous Women in this process.
• To ensure participation of Indigenous Women in all Indigenous organizations' activities at a local, national and international law.

World Conference VII WCIP General Assembly

Indigenous Peoples Towards a New Millenium
Guatemala, 6-10 December, 1993

The World Council of Indigenous Peoples,WCIP, has established in its Constituting Charter a World Conference of Indigenous Peoples every three years. Having celebrated the VI World Conference in Tromso, Norway, in August 1990, it is therefore mandatory to call the VII Conference in 1993.

The Executive Council decided, in its meeting held in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to convene the World Conference of Indigenous Peoples over 6-10 December, 1993 in order to close the activities of the International Year of Indigenous Peoples.

The Conference will take place in Guatemala City, and hopes to attract indigenous delegates from approximately 36 countries, special guests from international organizations, non-governmental organizations and specialized agencies.
