An Exploratory Study of Barriers Facing Women with Intellectual Disabilities when Making a Statement about Sexual Assault to the Police
This study involved in-depth inter views with police officers and sexual assault workers in the greater Sydney area. The study and report were sup ported by funding from the Department of Corrective Services' Victims of Violent Crime Grants Program.
Making a Statement gives further weight to evidence that women with intellectual disability face enormous barriers to completing a victim statement that has forensic value to a criminal investigation. The report concludes with recommendations as to how these barriers might be diminished.
